HISTORIC BETHEL DELAWARE

Welcome to history -- The entire town of Bethel, a quaint village of Victorian and Italianate architecture with a population of 199, is on the National Historic Register. Bethel was founded in the late 1700s and incorporated in the 1880s. The town, located on the north bank of the Broad Creek near Laurel, was a prosperous shipbuilding community in the 1800's and many of the homes were built by ship carpenters for sea captains of that period.

This page was started on September 4, 1999 and is dedicated to my father and mother; Marshall and Julia "Shelia" Baker, who spent most of their adult lives in this quaint community in Southwestern Sussex County in Delaware. This is also the place where my brother, sister and I grew up.

BETHEL EVENTS:

The Town of Bethel Election The Town of Bethel will hold an election for two (2) Council seats on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010. Deadline for filing will be Fri., Feb. 5, 2010 at 5 p.m. Voting will take place at the Bethel Historical Museum on First (1st) Street between 1 and 4 p.m. There will be no absentee ballots. You must be 18-years-old and a resident of Bethel to vote.
